This Watermelon and Strawberry Smoothie is one of the drinks I’ll be sipping on all summer long — light, fruity, refreshing, and ready really quickly. It’s one of those recipes that’s barely a recipe (just blend and go), but the flavour combo is so good it’s worth sharing properly.
It’s naturally hydrating thanks to the watermelon, packed with vitamin C from the strawberries, and the colour is just gorgeous. You can make it in any blender, but I used the Ninja Blast and it came out perfectly smooth and ice cold.

What You Need
This recipe makes one generous serving, which is perfect if you’re using a Ninja Blast or another personal blender (like a NutriBullet). But if you’re making smoothies for the whole family or just want to batch prep a few, it’s super easy to scale up.

Just double or triple the ingredients and use a larger blender. You can keep it in the fridge for the day (just give it a quick stir before serving) or pour it into lidded bottles to grab on the go.
Watermelon
Use fresh, seedless watermelon if possible. I chopped it into chunks and used 150g — it blends down easily and gives you a lovely juice-like base.

Strawberries
Another 150g of chopped strawberries — fresh or frozen both work. If yours are on the tart side, you might want to add a bit of sweetener (see below).

Cold Water
Just 100ml is enough to get things moving in the blender and give it a drinkable texture. You could swap this for coconut water or juice if you fancy a twist.
Ice Cubes
I used 5 ice cubes to chill it down and give it that smoothie-bar slushiness. Adjust depending on how thick you like it. If you are using frozen strawberries you can leave the ice cubes out.
Optional Extras
Add 1 tsp of honey or maple syrup if you want a little sweetness, and a squeeze of lime juice for extra zing. I added half a lime and loved the freshness it gave.
Making It
Step 1: Chop your fruit
You want roughly equal parts of watermelon and strawberries — about 150g of each. If your strawberries are particularly large, halve or quarter them so they blend more easily. Same with the watermelon — cut it into cubes and remove any seeds if you’re not using a seedless variety.
Step 2: Add everything to your blender
Add the water first followed by the chopped fruit into your blender cup, finishing off with the ice cubes. If you can’t fit the ice cubes in you can do a second cycle once the liquid and fruit has been blended. The watermelon adds plenty of natural juice, but the splash of water helps everything blend smoothly.
Step 3: Optional – Add a flavour boost
If your fruit isn’t at peak ripeness or you just like a touch of sweetness, add 1 tsp of honey or maple syrup. A squeeze of lime juice also brings out the freshness and balances the sweetness beautifully.
Step 4: Blend
Secure the lid and blend until everything is smooth and frothy — around 30 seconds in the Ninja Blast, or 45–60 seconds in a standard blender. You’re looking for a vibrant pink drink with no big chunks of fruit or ice left.
Step 5: Pour and enjoy
Serve it straight away while it’s ice cold. Pour into a tall glass or drink it straight from your blender cup.
Tips & Variations
- Use frozen strawberries for an even frostier finish.
- Swap the water for coconut water to make it more hydrating post-workout.
- Add a spoonful of chia seeds or flaxseed for a little boost of fibre.
- Freeze your watermelon chunks ahead of time and skip the ice.
