Pressure Cooker Hard Boiled Eggs (in a Ninja Foodi)

If you want to make a number of hard boiled eggs at once, using a pressure cooker is a simple relatively hands off method with good results every time.

I tend to cook them this way if I am making egg mayonnaise, or want to bulk prepare some high protein snacks for the week ahead.

What You Need

You can cook as many eggs as is needed and the timings will stay the same. I tend to only use this method if I want to cook a lot of eggs as once to use as snacks during the week or to make something like egg mayonnaise that requires lots of them at once.

If you only need a few eggs you can cook them the traditional way by boiling them in some hot water in a saucepan or you can even ‘boil’ eggs in an air fryer.

These instructions will work for any electric pressure cooker, I have use a Ninja Foodi 15-in-1.

  • 10 eggs (or however many you need)
  • 250ml water (or the minimum amount of water required for your pressure cooker)
  • Trivet – or anything that is high enough so that the eggs do not touch the water
  • Bowl of cold water that can include ice if you have it – this helps to stop the cooking time of the eggs as well as make it easier to peel the skin.

Cooking The Eggs

As you can imagine there aren’t really many steps, simply add the water to the pot, place the trivet inside and add as many eggs as you need, or that will fit.

Put the lid on and set the pressure cooker off on high for 5 minutes (make sure the pressure cooker valve is set to ‘seal’).

At the end of the cooking time leave the pressure cooker to naturally release for 5 minutes before manually releasing any final pressure.

During the 5 minutes that the pressure cooker is naturally releasing, if you are preparing an ice bath, you can do this now.

Using tongs, remove the eggs one by one and place in the bowl of cold water (or ice bath).

If you are not using the hard boiled eggs right away keep the shells on as this will keep them fresh for longer. If you are using them now peel each one my tapping it on a hard surface and peeling the shell away.

Either enjoy the eggs right away or store for snacks during the coming days.

Storing Hard Boiled Eggs

Hard-boiled eggs can last for a week when stored properly in the refrigerator. Here are some key points to ensure they stay fresh:

Storage: Place the eggs in a covered container in the fridge.

Peeled vs. Unpeeled:

Unpeeled: Hard-boiled eggs with their shells intact last the longest (up to 7 days).

Peeled: If you’ve already peeled them, store them in an airtight container with a damp paper towel to keep them moist. Peeled eggs should last about 5 days.

Check for Freshness:

Smell: Discard if they develop a sulfur-like or off smell.

Appearance: Look for any sliminess or discoloration, which indicates spoilage.

Keep them refrigerated as soon as they’ve cooled after boiling to maintain freshness.

Ingredients

  • 10 eggs (or however many you need)
  • 250 ml water (or your pressure cooker minimum liquid requirement)

Instructions

  • Add the water to the pressure cooker and place trivet in the bowl.
  • Place as many eggs on the trivet as will fit (and as many as you need).
  • Close the lid and set the pressure cooker off on high for 5 minutes. It will take about 10 minutes to come to pressure.
  • At the end of the cooking time leave the pressure cooker to naturally release for 5 minutes before manually releasing.
  • Use tongs to remove the eggs and place them in an ice bath, or a bowl of cold water and leave them to rest for 5 minutes. This will not only stop the cooking of the eggs, it will also make them easier to peel.
  • Peel the eggs if you are using them now or store with the shell on for future use.
