Air Fryer Halloumi Kebabs In A Sweet Chilli Sauce

Air fryer halloumi kebabs in a sweet chilli sauce offer the perfect combination of flavours and textures perfect for a summer meal or snack.

Alternate the halloumi chunks with a vibrant mix of vegetables such as pepper, red onion and courgette.

What You Need

The ingredients below are enough to make roughly 8 small halloumi kebabs. If you would rather use some premade sweet chilli sauce (I did!) you can skip the olive oil, honey, dried chilli flakes, soy sauce and lime juice.

ingredients for halloumi kebabs: halloumi, red onion, yellow peppers, courgettes, red peppers and sweet chilli sauce. The ingredients are chopped and laid out in bowls.
  • 250g halloumi cheese, cut into cubes
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 red onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 courgette, cut into thick slices
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon dried chilli flakes
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Wooden or metal skewers (if using wooden, soak in water for 30 minutes before use)

Feel free to use other vegetables like cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, or aubergine.

Making The Kebabs

Preparation:

If you are making your own marinade, in a bowl, mix the olive oil, honey, dried chilli flakes, soy sauce, lime juice, and a pinch of black pepper to create the sweet chilli sauce.

Thread the halloumi, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, red onion, and courgette alternately onto the skewers.

Marinate:

Brush the sweet chilli sauce generously over the halloumi and vegetable skewers, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavours.

Air Frying:

Place the skewers in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You might need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Air fry the kebabs at 200°C for 10-12 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time, until the vegetables are tender and the halloumi is golden and crispy.

Serving:

Once cooked, remove the kebabs from the air fryer and let them cool for a minute. Serve the halloumi kebabs hot, garnished with a sprinkle of extra dried chilli flakes or fresh herbs if desired.
