How To Make Hot Dogs In An Air Fryer

This is, of course, a super simple recipe, and so very few ingredients are required! I made four hotdogs at once, but you can make as many as you need or that your air fryer can fit.

Hot Dogs with mustard, rolls and air fryer

To make air fryer hot dogs, you’ll need:

Hot Dogs – you can use any type of sausage available.

Finger Rolls are soft, sweet, and light bread rolls that hold hot dogs perfectly. If you can’t find finger rolls, regular hot dog buns or baguette sections will work fine.

Condiments – add your favourite hot dog topping such as mustard, ketchup or BBQ sauce.

Making Them

First, you’ll need to make shallow slits with a sharp knife in each hot dog. This isn’t just for show – these cuts will allow the heat to penetrate more deeply into the hot dogs, ensuring that they’re heated evenly. It also gives them an attractive, restaurant-style appearance!

Once you’ve prepared your sausages, it’s time to cook them.

Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (about 390°F). If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat setting, just run it empty at the cooking temperature for about 5 minutes. Then, place your hot dogs in the air fryer. It’s best to arrange them in a single layer to ensure even cooking.

After 5 minutes of air frying, your hot dogs will be perfectly cooked – slightly crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside.

Optionally, you can also air fry the finger rolls. This will give them a slightly crispy texture and a warm, toasty flavour. If you prefer softer buns, you can skip this step. Remove hot dogs from the air fryer and place one in each roll.

Serving Air Fryer Hot Dogs

The beauty of hot dogs is that they can be served in many different ways. Dress them up with your favourite condiments. From classic ketchup and mustard to gourmet additions like caramelized onions, coleslaw, or chilli.

Air fryer hot dogs make for a quick weeknight dinner, a relaxed weekend lunch, or an easy dish for your next BBQ or picnic. They’re also fantastic for parties and gatherings.

Can I make this recipe with other types of sausages?

Yes – Bratwurst, Italian sausages, or regular pork sausages can be cooked in the air fryer using the same method.

Can I use frozen hot dogs?

Yes, but the cooking time will be longer. Air fry frozen hot dogs at 160°C for about 10 minutes, then increase the temperature to 200°C for another 5 minutes to crisp them up.
