What You Need To Make Homemade Pork Burgers

The ingredients below are enough to make four pork burgers. You can adjust according to how many you want to cook.

For The Burgers

ingredients laid out for piri piri pork burgers
  • 500g/1lb pork mince
  • 3 tbsp peri peri seasoning
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Burger baps
  • Optional extras such as lettuce, tomatoes, pineapple salsa and mayonnaise

For the Mayonnaise

I used a premade Nando’s peri peri mayonnaise (Perinaise!) but you could make your own by stirring together some peri peri seasoning and some mayonnaise.

How To Prepare The Burgers

In a bowl, mix the pork mince with the peri peri seasoning, red onion and beaten egg.

Side note: I used an electric food chopper to get the onion chopped so small (the Ninja one!)

You can use a spoon to combine everything together.

Next, divide the pork mixture into four equal portions. You can either use a burger press (I used this one on Amazon), or, your hands to shape the mixture into a patty burger shape.

Once you have formed the burgers cover them and leave in the fridge for at least 20 minutes, preferably longer if you can. This will help to hold the mince together before cooking the burgers.

Air Frying The Burgers

Lay the burgers directly in the air fryer basket. If you are worried that they might stick spray or brush a little oil over the basket.

Set the air fryer temperature to 180°C/360°F and cook for 10 to 12 minutes.

Check the pork burgers are cooked all the way through. If you have a meat thermometer the internal temperature should read 75°C.

Either eat as they are or put in a burger bun. Add your favourite burger fillings such as mayonnaise, lettuce and a fresh tomato slice.
